I want to make this recipe for greek salad dressing, but it calls for red wine vinegar. I can't have the wine or any alcohol in my foods for religious reasons.
So is there something else I can use as a substitute maybe like lemon juice??
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
1 1/2 quarts olive oil
1/3 cup garlic powder
1/3 cup dried oregano
1/3 cup dried basil
1/4 cup pepper
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup onion powder
1/4 cup Dijon-style mustard
2 quarts red wine vinegarWhat to use instead of red wine vinegar?
For a greek style dressing I think lemon juice would make it even Greekier.
Every vinegar product on the face of the planet is fermented from alcohol. Vinegar can only be made from alcohol and nothing else. Whatever type of vinegar you choose will be fermented from alcohol and will contain traces of alcohol in it. It is at a very minuscule level so it is not considered forbidden (similar to fruits, which also contain small traces of alcohol). Look it up!
youre quick to thumb down..

All vinegars start out as fermented something or the other, it is the alcohol, which comes from the sugars fermenting, that turns into vinegar. However, if you have to stay away from all fermented fruits, then I would suggest either lemon or lime juice, both of which should be astringent enough to satisfy your pallet.
Just use regular white vinegar.
The best alternative is Balsamic vinegar
ummmmmm all vinegar starts as alcohol duhh
