I have gotten to where I like to eat salads. The problem is though I put salad dressings (Thousand Island, Buttermilk, Blue Cheese, Ranch, Greek) on my salads. I like eating the vegetables with this dressing on there. I also eat a fair amount of crackers as well.
Am I defeating the purpose?

Ok, I'm not really sure about the dressings and others, but,
I know that crackers with salt can be good for you. It's 90 Calories, and three percent fattening. I know the 90 calories could be a bit, but trust me it's better then salad dressing.
Oh boy yes they are!! Crackers are terrible because they appear so insubstantial but in reality they are full of fat! Salad dressings are a nightmare. Kraft make some lite ones, but they are no substitute for the lovely Ranch and Blue Cheese! You can really tell the difference. If you're looking to lose weight you're onto a loser! Baked potato is fine with baked beans (I found they were life-savers when I was dieting). bake the potato then scoop out the inner sit the jacket aside.get some mushrooms,onions ands sweetcorn peppers too if you so wish and dice them all finely(a small amount of lean diced bacon can be added too).stir fry them all in a small amount of veg oil and add a dash of soya sauce or lee and perrins and a tad of garlic.grate some low fat cheese or use low fat soft cheese and add all to the scooped potato and mash roughly.add back to the jacket and toast the top under the grill.now tell me hun that wasnt tasty and ill eat your hat
this is the down fall of salads, the dressing. if you get a regular dressing it is full of fat. if you get a fat free dressing is it full of sugar. the best is to look for a low fat low carb dressing. then they really dont taste that great. what I have done in the past is get some fat free sour cream and a hidden valley ranch mix and use that. in regards to crackers some may have fat but that also isn't the problem, it is the carbs, carbs turn into sugar then into fat. so crackers are als around bad. and sorry potatoes are just plain off limits. the amount of starch is unacceptable. starch turns into sugar then fat. the trick is to burn more calories than you take in. I haven't been able to concur this task myself. it is very hard and good luck. so yes you are defeating the purpose. and fyi, carbs aren't fattning, they turn into sugar then if not burned off turn into fat.
Sure they can be. Crackers are loaded with carbohydrates much of the time, which, if not expended can become body fat. Salad dressings can be loaded with thick cream which is fattening. Try to see if there is a way to do simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Cut down on the crackers too. Helped me lose weight so far. Good luck!
the dressing are going to have to go! they're fattening and add calories. Try making your own using balsamic vinegar, olive oil and honey and a little mustard.. crackers are ok but only one or two, otherwise you are defeating the object! For your jacket potato try cottage cheese or creme fresh?
i think the majority of food can be fattening but if you are eating it in small portions and not all the time then it should be fine
Salad dressing - lots of calories - opt for healthy versions
Crackers - same - heathy version only
baked potato - low cal mayo with tuna, chicken e.t.c.
you can get low fat versions of everything these days- the lowest fat crackers i know are nice and they're rakusens 99% fat free, in green or orange box from uk supermarkets. theres a herby one for extra flavour. same with low fat dressings, some are just as good as full fat but loads better for you, just check the calories.
jacket spud-i'd need it to be 'wet' so instead of butter and sour cream try diet flora or alternative low fat spread, and instead of soured cream use creme fraiche. you can get half fat cheeses that taste as good as full, can add tuna or sweetcorn....
I think you are defeating the object. The salad dressings (unless low cal) are very high in fat. Crackers are alo high in fat and I don't know of any low cal ones except Ryvita.
As regards the baked potato, assuming your talking about having it with the salad, you could always melt a little cheese over it or use a low cal blue cheese dressing, Kraft do some nice low cal ones.
