Windows Movie Maker and .ax files?

Ok. I had Windows Movie Maker 2.0. After a while of using it, I started getting error messages whenever I opened it. So I gave up. Then finally I searched on Y!A one more time and found this answer.

I went to the website, clicked on Crashes and Hangs. It gives you details about .ax files, and says to rename all of them so that Windows Movie Maker doesn't recognize them .

What are .ax files? Are they bad? I went on this website:

and under the Crashes and Hangs, then Problem Codecs. I checked and it said I had 178 .ax files. Do I really have to rename all of them? Is it bad that I have so much? Please help! Thanks!Windows Movie Maker and .ax files?
You have 2.0? There's a new version of 2.1 and you have to have service pack 2. Windows movie maker 2.1 comes with service pack 2. Do you have service pack 1 already. Uninstall it and install service pack 2. First, you may want to check for windows updates and if you do not have service pack 2 already, you may be prompted to download and install it when checking for windows updates. Here is a video that will show you how to properly install service pack 2.1. Once you have installed that, you should already have windows movie make 2.1. After installing service pack 2, you can go to the windows movie maker, go to "Help" then "About" and it should tell you that you have 2.1. On the second line after selecting "About" you might see a version 5.1 and other numbers but do not let that confuse you. The actual version is 2.1 and you will find that on the last line. There is no 5.1 for windows xp at this time.

Here's the video to watch about downloading and installing windows movie maker 2.1 along with doing the same with service pack 2. You cannot get windows movie maker 2.1 with service pack 1. It is not compatible and will not work with service pack 1. First part of the video explains how to restore the system if you had trouble with the software. You can ignore that if you never had the software and the video will get onto how to get service pack 2. End of the movie shows how to fix problems with windows movie maker 2.1 if you already have service pack 2. You can also ignore that.
