America is well known for our "obesity epidemic" and the government is always seeming to come up with getter ways to "control" it. Below is an example of the well known food pyramid and PROOF of why America is still getting FAT from "controlled obesity".
(haha get it?)
Bread, cereal, rice and pasta group-6-11 servings.
If the average serving of whole wheat bread is 100 calories and you were to multiply that by 6-11, you would eat 600-1100 calories just from BREAD. That's the lowest amount of calories one could consume by fallowing the scale. A serving of pasta at least is 350.
Fruit group- 2-4 servings
On top of all that bread, one could consume at least another 200 calories a day. Let's just hope they're not constantly combining fruits and breads.
Vegetable Group- 3-5 servings
Most veggies are extremely low in calories, or negative calorie foods. I would think that as long as the average individual isn't eating 3-5 avocados or potatoes a day, they should be able to keep a healthy weight.
Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and nuts group-2-3 servings
The lowest calorie intake a person could obtain is 210 calories, from eating three eggs. Regardless, one is living off of nuts and fatty meat, they could consume an additional 600 calories a day!
Milk, yogurt and cheese group-
2-3 servings. If one was to eat three servings of fat-free greek yogurt, they might be able to manage to be healthy. At 100 calories per serving, it's not something that's going to kill. But what about those that eat high-fat cheese such as pepper jack? Granted a serving is around 120 calories, but the fat is a killer!
The lowest amount of calories a person who is fallowing the food pyramid will consume a day is around 1310. But think about it, who really would eat like that? Six to eleven slices of 100-calorie bread, three eggs, low-fat cheeses and fat free milk? Boooorrring!
I'm estimating here, but if one uses a diverse diet, they'll consume 5666 calories a day!
WHATTHEFUCK?!
Can a body builder even work that off?
I'm not trying to bash on the pyramid, in fact, I believe that it can be quite useful, when used on a 2-3 day scale! I'm not asking America to go "ana", I'm just pointing out a healthier type of lifestyle.
Think about it, you wake up in the morning and have a glass of fat-free milk, two eggs, a serving of low fat cheese, and a piece of toast. That's 460 calories. For lunch, you decide to try some grilled chicken with a salad, and some low fat dressing. If you play your cards right, you'll eat only 140 more calories! For dinner you eat a small cut of steak and a fruit salad. (About 750 calories). By the end of the day you've only consumed 1350 calories, yet according to the scale you have 5-10 more servings of bread, 1-3 more servings of fruit, and perhaps another serving or two of meat, veggies and milk. That's practically another day's worth of food you saved yourself!
So what do you think?
Would you cut the food pyramid into 2-3 day segments?Do you think that the food pyramid is asking for us to eat too many calories?
The food pyramid is an ideal rant from republicans and conformists. telling us how to lead our lives, i dont buy it. Society is braiwashing us, there all after me, I KNOW THEIR SECRETS!. I snack on Buffalo wings and cheeze its just to show the man. Nabisco is my form of retaliation, whats yours?
The food pyramid is HORRIBLE. Its structure indicates the power of certain food lobbies.
There is an overemphasis on grains, way too much emphasis on meat and dairy, and too little on fruits and vegetables.Do you think that the food pyramid is asking for us to eat too many calories?
Your calcuations are off, actually.
First off, you have to keep in mind that these are guidelines... it doesn't mean everyone should eat up to 11 servings of carbs. It's a range because there is a big difference between the caloric needs for a 6'2" muscular male with a demanding physical labor job and a 5' tall sedentary female. An athelete can eat more than the food pyramid recommends and still not gain and oz.
1,200 calories per day is actually as low as people should go because it requires at least that much for almost everyone just to keep their organs and brain functioning. The food pyramid is not about weight loss... the recommendations are for maintenance of a healthy weight.
Bread is not 100 calories (at least not most breads). 100% whole wheat bread without sugar added is only about 25 calories per slice. Other low-calorie grains are oatmeal, sprouted wheat, brown rice, etc.
The problem is not the food pyramid... the problem is so many people don't follow it. Many, many people don't eat enough veggies in the day, or can't eat them without slobbering on butter and oil and cheese.
Most people eat way more bigger slabs of meat than necessary. Most people don't even know what a realistic portion is because restaurant sized portions are super-sized.
Most people eat junk foods like pre-packaged food or fast food laden with grease, salt %26amp; chemicals. People eat refined flour, rice, sugar, etc. which is probably the worst things you can put into your body on a regular basis.
The food pyramid isn't responsible for Americans being overweight, it's the kinds of foods and portion sizes we've gotten used to, that we consider "normal" are really bad for us.
I think that we should get rid of any kind of "pyramid." Human beings don't realize how tender and sensitive their bodies are. I don't have anything against people who eat meat, but we would all be a lot healthier if we ate fruits and plants, mostly plants.
Just because your stomach doesn't hurt, doesn't mean your NOT doing damage to your health. Meat is the hardest for us to digest. There is a reason why you get sleepy after eating a 1/2 lb of steak, a side of mashed potatoes and a pint of beer. Your stomach is saying, "Stop, I'm tired!" Of course you fall asleep due to your body exhausting to digest (food coma)then, you drink a cup of coffee or tea to stay awake, OR order a sweet dessert, which is even WORSE. People get into this habit and your body is constantly up-and-down, continuously fed something that changes it's natural, calm state. I'll stop ranting now. GIVE YOUR BODY A BREAK!
Eat small portions and don't eat too much.
Most foods that satisfy the tongue, "unsatisfy" the body. These consist of the extremely salty, sweet, and spicy.
